Denver is the next stop on NBC News’ “Education Nation” roadshow, which brings members of the network’s news team together with local government and education leaders and members of the public to tackle regional education issues.
The initiative is designed to bring Americans together to find solutions for improving education, according to the network.
NBC’s weeklong stay in Denver kicks off today at noon with opening ceremonies to be attended by U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall, Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Denver Public Schools Superintendent Tom Boasberg.
Parts of the event will be broadcast live on the 9News noon newscast.
Sunday, NBC will host a panel discussion on third-grade literacy. Recent research indicates third grade is a crucial time for students, and those who have not mastered reading by that time face difficulty in their future education. Colorado lawmakers this spring have been debating a proposed law that would recommend holding kids back if they can’t read by third grade.
That discussion, which starts at 3:30 p.m., will be broadcast Thursday April 19 at 7 p.m. on Channel 20.
At 6 p.m. Sunday, NBC and 9News reporters will host a Teacher Town Hall, which will be broadcast live on Channel 20 and
