EAGLE – —  The store responsible for about 40 percent of Eagle’s sales tax revenue wants to double in size, and may need to move to do it.

During a public input session Tuesday, new Eagle Mayor Yuri Kostick said the Kroger corporation, City Market’s parent company, wants to expand the Eagle City Market to nearly double its current size. The problem is there isn’t enough room on the store’s current site.

According to Kostick, City Market will not leave Eagle, but is considering expansion to Gypsum. The subject came up just minutes after three new town board members and Kostick were sworn in. Kostick said he’d recently talked to Joel Starbuck, director of real estate development for Kroger in Colorado. Starbuck told Kostick that Kroger likes the Eagle store and it’s a high performer.
