Drivers along E-470 in Douglas County this weekend will see the first in a series of traffic lane shifts as work begins on a six-month, $9.5 million construction project.
The E-470 Public Highway Authority is reconstructing a 20-year-old, 2.5 mile stretch of the tollway between Parker Road and the toll plaza near Chambers Road.
Beginning Friday at 9 p.m., eastbound traffic approaching the E-470 toll plaza will be cut to two lanes and will shift to the right, traveling through two of the previously closed toll booth lanes near Chambers Road.
The speed limit through the toll booth lanes will be reduced to 25 mph. Although tolls will still be in effect, there will be no stopping at toll booths to pay tolls.
The eastbound lane shifts through the toll booth lanes will occur for about three weekends, weather permitting – April 20-22, April 27-29, and May 4-6, according to the E-470 Highway Authority.
The lane shifts will begin each Friday at 9 p.m. and end no later than Monday morning at 6 a.m.
The contractor will remove and replace the full depth of the pavement on a portion of the original 5-mile segment of E-470 that opened in Douglas County in 1991.
