DENVER—The search is continuing for an independent monitor of the Denver police and sheriff’s department, now that one candidate has turned down an offer to take the post.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock had extended an offer to Julie Ruhlin, but city officials said Friday that Ruhlin declined the appointment to remain in the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review. She was one of the three finalists for the Denver position.
Hancock is asking a selection committee to suggest more candidates for the position from the initial pool of 110 applicants.
Former Denver Independent Monitor Richard Rosenthal left earlier this year to take a similar post in British Columbia.
