FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is defending the use of a GPS tracker to follow a critic of the department.

The department says the tracking was justified because authorities thought she was planning to kidnap her son and defy a court order, and they didn’t believe they needed approval from a judge to use the GPS equipment.

According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan ( ), Stacy Lynne found the device on her vehicle recently after she saw deputies following her.

Lynne has repeatedly criticized the sheriff’s office and Fort Collins city officials over a variety of issues.
