The Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. hosted its eighth annual meeting and awards luncheon Wednesday with Arrow Electronics receiving special recognition.

The Deal of the Year Award, which recognized a company that had the largest economic impact on the region, was presented to Arrow Electronics because of its decision to move its headquarters to the metro Denver area.

“Arrow’s decision to move its world headquarters and other portions of its supply chain to Metro Denver is certainly a game changer for our state,” said Bob Deibel, co-chair of the Metro Denver EDC executive committee .

The Metropolitan Cooperation Award was presented to the Arvada Economic Development Association, the City of Westminster, the Aurora Economic Development Council, Adams County Economic Development and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. They were recognized for their “collaborative efforts” to locate GE Energy’s massive solar manufacturing plant to the region.

“This award exemplifies the regional attitude and credo of our economic development groups,” said Tom Clark, chief executive of Metro Denver EDC.

The Chairs’ Award for Outstanding Efforts in Economic Development honored 16 individuals and groups for their efforts to help obtain spaceport status in Colorado. The group, said Metro Denver, helped pave the way for the proposed Spaceport Colorado, a site for horizontal spacecraft launch into low-earth orbit.

The Special Recognition Award for dedicated service and achievement in economic development honored Kittie Hook, senior vice president of corporate services for Cassidy Turley Fuller Real Estate . The award honored Hook, a former chair of the Metro Denver EDC’s Board of Governors, a current Executive Committee member, and a long-term volunteer for the organization.
