GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—Prosecutors say a 54-year-old man accused of bursting into an assisted living center in Rifle and brandishing a pistol in front of residents and staff is a “career felon.”
District Attorney Martin Beeson says Gregory Blurton of Rifle has multiple convictions, ranging from illegal use of a sawed-off shotgun to bank robbery, assault and car theft.
Blurton is accused of barricading himself in a resident’s room at Crossroads Assisted Living on May 17 and holding police at bay with a handgun. He was arrested after being shot with a stun gun.
Court documents don’t indicate why Blurton was at the facility, but Beeson says in one document the man walked in and said he needed water to clean blood from his back.
The Post Independent ( ) reports Blurton faces 38 charges.
