DURANGO, Colo.—Sheriff’s officials are looking for a man accused of breaking into the home of a Durango police officer, who fired a shot at the man before he fled.
It’s unclear whether the bullet struck the man.
Dan Bender of the La Plata County sheriff’s office says William Sweetwood and his wife heard the garage door of their home north of Bayfield open around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Sweetwood grabbed his service handgun while his wife called 911. Bender says Sweetwood saw the man in the garage and fired at him before the man fled.
Bender says the suspected burglar entered the garage by using an opener taken from Sweetwood’s truck, which was in the driveway with a window open.
