GREELEY, Colo.—The city of Greeley is getting $500,000 from the federal government to ensure it has clean drinking water following a series of wildfires.
Recent rains drenching the High Park Fire and Hewlett Gulch Fire burn areas have pushed a lot of ash and sediment into the Poudre River, turning parts of the river black.
According to KUSA-TV ( ), Fort Collins and Greeley water departments provide water for about 250,000 customers. Both cities rely on the river for water.
Greeley is filtering its water, but officials are cautioning residents that some customers might experience a smoky smell.
Officials say none of the drinking water poses a health risk and the water is constantly being tested.
