The Lakewood Police Department arrested Corey Anthony Lopez Thursday night on suspicion of first-degree murder and domestic violence in a case involving his girlfriend.
Police found Richelle Ann Best , 21, dead in the apartment the two shared at 1070 Teller St. on Tuesday
shortly after receiving a phone call from Lopez around noon.
Lopez, 22 , had reported his girlfriend unresponsive and was on scene when police arrived.
Autopsy results indicate that non-visible trauma was responsible for Best’s death.
“It took the autopsy to give them an exact cause and manner of death,” Steve Davis , a Lakewood Police Department spokesman, said. Davis said that information is not being released due to ongoing investigation.
“Although we do believe that it is in fact a homicide,” he said.
Lopez was arrested after a late-night interview Thursday and booked at the Jefferson County Jail .
Davis said Lopez is expected to make his first appearance in court Monday morning.
