Road crews recently began a three-mile resurfacing project on I-76 between Federal Boulevard and I-25 to fix pavement considered in poor condition.

The work will help increase the quality and smoothness of the roadway. That section of the I-76 was last paved in 2003.

“There is a great deal of cracking and rutting along this stretch of I-76 as well as numerous high and low spots,” said Colorado Department of Transportation Engineer Neil Lacey. “To improve the roadway, we will not only rotomill and pave, but will also level the profile of the roadway to provide a smoother roadway surface.”

During the work, motorists can expect various single lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-76 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Various ramp closures are also possible throughout the project.

Brannan Sand & Gravel, LLC is the contractor for this $2.3 million project scheduled to be finished by the end of August.
