A man wanted on suspicion of attempted homicide held sheriff’s deputies at bay for more than eight hours in Strasburg before surrendering peacefully.

The incident unfolded Wednesday when the Adams County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant with the help of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies believed the man was at his Strasburg home, 1200 S. County Road 157, unit 12, according to an Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office media release.

At about 5:30 p.m. patrol deputies, the SWAT unit and bomb squad surrounded the suspect’s mobile home and evacuated nearby residences as a safety precaution.

The man was armed, the sheriff’s office said, and had barricaded himself inside. Deputies and negotiators tried several times to establish contact with the man but failed.

Eventually, at about 11:15 p.m., contact was made with the suspect, who was armed with a handgun, the sheriff’s office said. The suspect threatened to use the weapon.

At about 2:10 a.m. he surrendered without further incident.

The sheriff’s office identified the man as Isaac Lesperance-Torres, 39, of Strasburg.

He is being held at the Adams County Jail on the initial felony arrest warrant.
