Metro West League

ALAMEDA Coach: Keith Gille 2011 record: 1-9 Returning starters: Six offense, seven defense Last playoff appearance: 1992 Strengths: Great numbers, work hard. Weaknesses: Very young. Players to watch: Lupe Pacheco, Sr., 5-7 150, RB/LB; Lucious West, Jr., 5-11 185, RB/LB; Joe Fairbanks, Sr., 5-9 250, OL; Chris Ferson, Jr., 5-9 130, QB/WR/DB; Darius Montgomery, So., 5-9 165, RB/DB; Parker Roberts, So., 5-9 170, QB/RB/DB; Angel Hernandez, Sr., 5-11 240, OL/DL; Justin Pacheco, Sr., 5-10 205, OL/DL In 2012: The Pirates are in the transition stage but have high expectations. They have more depth than they have had in a number of years. With a very stable coaching staff, they are looking to be very competitive.

ARVADA Coach: Tom Baker 2011 record: 3-7 Returning starters: Four offense, four defense Last playoff appearance: 1991 Strengths: Maturity, game experience, offense, senior class. Weaknesses: Lack of tradition. Players to watch: John Martinez, Sr., 5-10 180, QB; Tyler Landgraff, Jr., 6-1 280, OL; Taylor Vaughn, Sr., 5-8 160, DB/WR; Travin Harris, Jr., 6-3 185, TE/DE; Casey Milroy, Sr., 6-4 170, WR/CB In 2012: A very good senior class, led by second-year quarterback John Martinez, has this team going in the right direction. Arvada is very dynamic with some great athletes on both sides of the ball. With everything set in place, this team is looking to start their own winning tradition after 30 years of losing.

CONIFER Coach: Larry Fitzmaurice 2011 record: 6-4 Returning starters: Six offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: 2009 Strengths: Seniors, experience, speed. Weaknesses: Depth, youth. Players to watch: Don Fuller, Sr., 6-6 290, OL/DL; Thomas Kim, Sr., 6-0 160, QB; Seth Trujillo, Sr., 6-0 160, WR/DB; AJ Eleniewski, Jr., 5-7 150, RB/SS In 2012: This senior-led team is expecting to keep on improving and take one game a time. Their offense is very good, and tough as nails. Undefeated last year at home, they will try to continue that success this upcoming season.

D’EVELYN Coach: Jeremy Bennett 2011 record: 9-3 Returning starters: Seven offense, eight defense Last playoff appearance: 2011 (Lost in second round) Strengths: Passing game, size on offensive and defensive lines. Weaknesses: Running game, linebackers. Players to watch: Cody Marvel, Sr., 6-3 190, QB; Connor Skelton, Sr., 6-1 180, WR; Tommy Fitzsimmons, Sr., 6-4 270, OT; Austin Balbin, Sr., 6-3 215, DE; Danny Reeves, Sr., 6-2 220, LB; George Truman, Sr., 6-5 230, DE; Greg Moinet, Jr., 5-9 185, RB; Steve Bourdan, Jr., 6-3 265, OG; Tony Porreco, Jr., 5-9 180, WR In 2012: The Jaguars are full of potential as they sit atop the preseason rankings at No. 2. This team is very big and stronger than they have ever been. Their passing game is very potent with some fast skill position players as well. Expectations are high this season.

EVERGREEN Coach: Rob Molholm 2011 record: 9-2 Returning starters: One offense, two defense Last playoff appearance: 2011 (Lost in first round) Strengths: Youth has been successful and is ready to step up; offensive and defensive lines. Weaknesses: Youth (lots of sophomores and juniors). Players to watch: John Cassell, Sr., 6-2 185, QB/S; Connor Kissler, Sr., 6-0 200, LB/RB; Gage Wright, Sr., 6-0 215, OL/DL; Trey Tossetti, Sr., 5-10 190, RB/LB; Josh Toler, Sr., 6-1 200, OL/DL; Nick Rogers, Sr., 6-0 190, OL/DL In 2012: Evergreen is full of young competitive players and is looking to continue its success this season. Most of these young guys have learned the offensive and defensive system for the last four years and are now ready to step up and make some noise this season.

LUTHERAN Coach: Daryl Moe 2011 record: 10-1 (in 1A) Returning starters: Seven offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: 2011 Strengths: Athletic, skill positions Weaknesses: Youth Players to watch: James Willis, So., 6-1 195, QB; Christian Versteeg, So., 5-11 200, RB; Josh Clausen, So., 6-5 205, WR; Derrick Heizer, Sr., 6-4 210, MLB; Taylor Murphy, Sr., 6-3 195, S; Derrian Perez, Jr., 5-9 170, CB In 2012: The Lions have jumped up a couple levels from 1A to 3A and are very optimistic about being in their new league. They are well aware that their new competition will be a lot tougher but, with a talented young group of kids, they are very confident. This team started four freshmen last year, so they are in growth mode, but look to compete for a playoff berth.

SUMMIT Coach: Dylan Hollingsworth 2011 record: 6-4 Returning starters: Six offense, five defense Last playoff appearance: 2008 Strengths: Senior leadership, linemen experience. Weaknesses: Depth, inexperience. Players to watch: Nic Berry, Sr., 5-9 175, RB/LB; Grant Koch, Sr., 6-3 260, OL/DT; Markeef McDonald, Sr., 6-3 180, WR/DB; Nolan Rookey, Sr., 6-3 240, TE/DE; Sean Farley, Sr., 5-11 160, QB; Chris Vangsnes, Jr., 6-1 220, OL; C.J. Moll, Sr., 5-9 180, FB/LB In 2012: Summit is looking forward to this season, which is full of a lot of promise. Although their schedule is extremely tough, playing six of the top 15 in the preseason poll, they are looking to start off well. Their seniors need to lead through their grueling schedule and if that happens they will have a lot of success.

Metro East League

ELIZABETH Coach: Chris Cline 2011 record: 5-5 Returning starters: Three offense, five defense Last playoff appearance: 2010 Strengths: Improved offensive/defensive line, more balanced offense. Weaknesses: Youth, small senior class. Players to watch: Brandon Strannigan, Sr., 5-10 175, OL/DL; Dallas Reins, Jr., 6-5 290, OL/DL; Brody Oliver, Jr., 6-2 180, QB/FS; Chase Nicholas, Jr., 5-11 170, RB/LB; Kevin Parades, Jr., 5-10 175, RB/LB; Jordan Buchnam, Jr., 6-0 195, RB/LB In 2012: The Cardinals are looking to get back to their 2010 state championship form. This is a pretty good team, but in order to be successful this season they need to maintain a more balanced attack on offense and stay healthy.

ENGLEWOOD Coach: Jay Graves 2011 record: 4-6 Returning starters: Six offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: 2010 Strengths: Continuity, coach-player relationship, brotherhood Weaknesses: Depth Players to watch: Damasaja Currington, Sr., 5-11 225, OL/DL; Greg Pearson, Jr., 5-8 140, RB/S; Jacob Helman, Sr., 5-10 180, OL/LB; Tyler Harris, Jr., 5-11 220, DE/QB In 2012: This team is looking to find their way in their new league. Their incredible coach-player relationship will carry them a long way, but they will have to rely on their top runner Greg Pearson, who is coming off a 1,300-yard season.

FORT MORGAN Coach: Harrison Chisum 2011 record: 4-6 Returning starters: Seven offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: 2008 Strengths: Speed, leadership, experience. Weaknesses: Must fill void left by seniors. Players to watch: James Martens, Sr., 5-10 185, QB/OLB; Nate Alexander, Sr., 5-7 175, TB; Cody Davis, Sr., 5-11 175, WR/DB; Joe Zavala, Sr., 6-1 295, DT; Garrett Stroeel, Sr., 6-0 290, DT; Chris Pineda, Sr., 5-10 180, FS/WR In 2012: This team is continuing to rebuild and continuing to get better. They have a lot of speed at their skill positions. Mix that in with some great leadership and experience, and out comes a promising season ahead. They want to get better at home, where they were not able to win at all last year.

SKYVIEW Coach: Bill Nelson 2011 record: 7-3 Returning starters: Six offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: 2003 Strengths: Winning attitude. Weaknesses: Depth, replacing seniors, running game. Players to watch: Daniel Guedara, Sr., RB/LB; Deion Pena, Sr., QB; George Lara, Jr., QB; Javier Urbina, Jr., WR; Michael Vice, Sr., WR/FS; Jorge Barajas, Jr., WR; Juan Borunda, Sr., OL; William Alabaran, Jr., OL; Ismel Navarro, So., OL; Jose Gonzalez, So., OL In 2012: Nelson’s expectations this upcoming season are to be competitive and to continue to build this program. This team has a strong work ethic and after two-straight winning seasons, each year looks to become brighter. They will have to replace some very good skill players and their lineman will have to grow up quickly this year in order to be successful.

VISTA PEAK Coach: Pat Rock 2011 record: 2012 is first varsity season Returning starters: N/A Last playoff appearance: Never qualified. Strengths: Athleticism. Weaknesses: Depth. Players to watch: Isaiah Young, So., 6-2 172, QB/RB/LB; Kyree Herron, So., 5-9 150, RB/DB; Adam Puehler, Jr., 5-11 160, QB/DB; Tim Klem, Jr., 5-11 165, OL/LB; Zach Hoppe, Jr., 5-10 190, DL; D.J. Ortiz, Jr., 6-3 180, WR; Ayo Sanusi, Jr., 5-9 160, RB/DB In 2012: As this is their first year as a varsity team, expectations are just to get their feet wet, as well as being competitive in every game. They have a ton of athleticism at every position, which should help them get acclimated in this league.

WELD CENTRAL Coach: Mike Brown 2011 record: 3-7 (in 2A) Returning starters: Eight offense, eight defense Last playoff appearance: Strengths: Experience. Weaknesses: Depth, youth. Players to watch: Jon Meketuk, Sr., 6-0 200, OL/DL; Tyler Nebelsick, Jr., 5-11 160, WR/DB; Brandon Blackston, Jr., 6-1 170, QB/DB; Carson DeGroot, Jr., 5-9 160, FB/LB; Tyler McClure, Sr., 5-11 170, TE/DE; Nathan Quimby, So., 5-10 150, RB/LB In 2012: Weld Central has moved up from 2A and with great expectation. They are looking forward to the challenge of being moved up and are going to be very competitive in each game. They will need to stay healthy and finish strong in order to be successful.

Northern League

Players to watch: Kevin Castillo, Jr., 5-8 155, S; Daniel Ramirez, Jr., 5-9 215, FB; Walter Ochoa, Jr., 5-9 170, LB In 2012: This hardworking team is looking forward to this season. They’re full of young, tough individuals that have worked their tails off all year in hopes of reaching the playoffs.

ERIE Coach: Larry Gartrell 2011 record: 4-6 Returning starters: Seven offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: 2010 Strengths: Experience Weaknesses: None Players to watch: Ryne Atkins, Sr., 5-11 180, RB/LB; Pedro Anderson, Sr., 5-7 155, RB/DB; Connor Conilogue, Sr., 6-3 240, OL/DL; Tyler David, Sr., 6-1 230, OL/DL; Max Dixon, Sr., 6-0 180, OL/LB In 2012: The Tigers return 26 lettermen from the 2011 season. A lot of young players gained valuable experience last season. Sophomores and juniors will have to make big strides early in order to be successful in league play. They will rely heavily on last season’s leading rusher, Ryne Atkins, and the core of both lines.

FREDERICK Coach: Thad Lear 2011 record: 9-4 Returning starters: Six offense, nine defense Last playoff appearance: 2011 (Lost in semifinals) Strengths: Team chemistry, experience Weaknesses: Depth Players to watch: K.C. Rivera, Sr., 6-1 220, LB/FB; Ryan Miller, Sr., 6-2 215, FB/LB; Jacob Sleeth, Sr., 5-11 170, DB/RB; Jarron Balman, Sr., 6-2 210, QB/OLB; Zack Gomez, Sr., 5-10 170, RB/DB; Jacob Vargas, Sr., 6-2 210, OL/OLB; Jesse Butts, Sr., 6-2 230, OL/DL; Austin King, Jr., 5-11 230, OL/DL; Michael Broz, Jr., 6-2 185, QB/S; Austin Salazar, Sr., 6-0 235, OL; Joe Wise, Sr., 6-2 175, S/WR In 2012: The Warriors have high expectations going into this season, and are ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll. With nine returning starters on defensive, they’re loaded. In order for this team to take the next step, they need their seniors to step up and their guys to stay healthy.

HOLY FAMILY Coach: Mike Gabriel 2011 record: 8-3 Returning starters: Five offense, five defense Last playoff appearance: 2011 (Lost in first round) Strengths: Good upperclassmen. Weaknesses: Youth at key positions. Players to watch: David Summers, Jr., 6-1 175, QB; Jared Delterrera, Sr., 5-10 180, RB; Daniel Kubistek, Sr., 6-2 230, OL; Daniel Jansen, Sr., 5-9 230, DL; Chuck Holwedell, Sr., 5-10 170, CB; Jake Sheppherd, Sr., 6-3 185, CB In 2012: Holy Family will be returning five starters from each side of the ball but will be very youthful in some key positions. They lost their 1,500-yard rusher from last season and some key receivers as well, which means their young guys will have to contribute immediately. Their hope this season is to get over the hump and win a league title.

THOMAS JEFFERSON Coach: Tim Owens 2011 record: 3-7 (in 5A) Returning starters: Six offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: Strengths: Speed, leadership Weaknesses: Youth, size Players to watch: Nick Lednev, Sr., QB; Abraham Woldo, Sr., WR; Marcus Allen, Sr., DE/TE/OL; Ron Fieber, Jr., OL/DL; Sherman Brown, Jr., OL/DL; Ed Martin, So., RB/LB; Layth Dieyleah, Sr., LB/RB In 2012: Dropping from 5A to 3A, expectations are high at Thomas Jefferson. They are looking to be extremely successful and to compete for a league title as well as the state title. TJ played a lot of sophomores last year, so now that they have a year under their belt they should help contribute right away.

CORONADO Coach: Bob Lizarraga 2011 record: 0-10 Returning starters: Seven offense, seven defense Last playoff appearance: 1991 Strengths: Integrity, depth, better skill positions. Weaknesses: Youth. Players to watch: Josh Knotek, Sr., 6-2 238, MLB/FB; Evan Strauss, Sr., 5-10 207, OLB/FB; Antwan Outlaw, Jr., 6-0 165, WR/CB; Joah Smith, Jr., 6-1 195, QB; Sam Smith, Jr., 6-1 195, MLB/FB; Gabe Portillo, So., 5-7 195, DT In 2012: After a disappointing 2011, the Cougars are optimistic and looking to accomplish some great things. With some good senior leadership and a strong young core, they’re season is looking promising.

Players to watch: Nate Connor, Sr., 6-1 170, QB; Joe Dell, Sr., 6-3 160, OLB/TE; Eric Hudson, Sr., 5-10 230, DL/OL; Matt Brines, Jr., RB; Keenan Oby, Sr., 6-2 220, OL/DL; Isaac Vasquez, Sr., OL; Sean Grundman, Sr., WR/DB; Cam Commerford, Sr., OLB In 2012: This season the Rangers have high expectations, especially with their seasoned quarterback Nate Connor back for his senior season. They are in a new league but are still confident they will be very competitive, and look to retun to the playoffs.

MITCHELL Coach: Archie Malloy III 2011 record: 2-8 Returning starters: Seven offense, seven defense Last playoff appearance: 2002 Strengths: Offensive line, running game. Weaknesses: Depth. Players to watch: Aaron Wright, Jr., 5-11 180, TB; Justin Paul, Jr., 6-0 213, OL/DL; Philip Booz, Sr., 6-3 208, OL/DL; Andree Savoy, Jr., 5-10 175, QB; Chris Ruch, Jr., 5-9 180, TE/LB In 2012: Mitchell will be joining a new league but looks to still be very competitive. A lot of young guys played last year, which gives them much needed experience. This team believes they are right in the mix with a very good running game and are expecting to have two 900-yard rushers.

WOODLAND PARK Coach: Joe Roskam 2011 record: 5-5 Returning starters: Four offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: 2000 Strengths: Defensive front seven, offensive line, quarterback. Weaknesses: Depth, inexperience. Players to watch: Jake Censner, Sr., QB; Caelan Garner, Sr., DE; Joe Callahan, Sr., WR; Jon Hinton, Jr., WR; Weston Schuttz, Jr., LB; Josh Schmidt, Jr., LB; Logan Watters, Jr., FS In 2012: Woodland Park is very optimistic about this season and it has to do with their defensive front and their quarterback. Their quarterback is coming off a 2,000-yard passing season, but he will need some new guys to replace the skill players. They are continuing to build this program and will be very competitive this upcoming season.

Southern League

THE CLASSICAL ACADEMY Coach: David Bervig 2011 record: 2-8 Returning starters: Five offense, four defense Last playoff appearance: 2009 Strengths: Pass offense, special teams, defense. Weaknesses: Size. Players to watch: Justin Miller, Sr., 6-2 210, MLB/RB; Daniel Carlson, Sr., 6-3 190, K; Thomas Caracena, Sr., 6-2 260, OL/DL; Josh Dillon, Sr., 6-0 230, OL/DL; Peter Troupe, So., 5-11 150, WR/DB; Korey Schlaudt, Sr., 6-1 225, MLB/OL; Tanner Grzesiek, Sr., 5-10 195, RB/DL In 2012: An excellent starting kicker (Daniel Carlson) who is headed to Auburn, and their revamped defense (led by highly-touted MLB Justin Miller), has this team looking to be much improved from last year. This team looks to be very competitive within their league as they now have more experienced players.

HARRISON Coach: Al Melo 2011 record: 7-3 Returning starters: Six offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: 2006 Strengths: Speed, running game. Weaknesses: Depth. Players to watch: Andre Peppers, Sr., 6-0 160, WR/DB; Demetrius Graves, Jr., 5-11 190, RB/LB; Darius Graves, Jr., 6-1 190, RB/DE; Devon Strover, Sr., 6-1 250, OL/DL; Jordan Gilchrist, Sr., 5-10 150, DB/WR In 2012: After barely missing the playoffs last year, the Panthers are ready to take that next step. They will do it behind a very solid ground game that has some great size and speed. They will try to continue their success in their league, where they only had one loss last season.

PUEBLO CENTRAL Coach: Zach Odell 2011 record: 3-7 Returning starters: Nine offense, ten defense Last playoff appearance: 2009 Strengths: Offensive line, and defense. Weaknesses: Pass offense Players to watch: Ty McCulley, Sr., 6-6 265, OL/DL; Kyle Palmour, Sr., 6-5 270, OL/DL; Damien Ruybal, Sr., 5-10 185, RB/SS; Anthony Greenway, Sr., 6-0 210, OL/DL; Dustin Vidana, Sr., 6-0 180, DB/WR In 2012: Pueblo Central has some high expectations for this upcoming season, especially on defense. They bring in former Adams State defensive coordinator to help enhance their defensive side of the ball. They have two lineman, McCulley and Palmour, who are getting heavily recruited, and will be relied on to carry the offensive and defensive line. Their up-tempo, no-huddle offense will be expected to pull through as well.

PUEBLO COUNTY Coach: Jeff Wilson 2011 record: 5-5 Returning starters: Seven offense, seven defense Last playoff appearance: 2009 Strengths: Experience. Weaknesses: Defense. Players to watch: Dylan Meservee, Sr., 6-3 200, QB/DE; Kyle Zimmerman, Sr., 6-0 245, OL/DT; J.C. Spencer, Sr., 5-10 185, FB/MLB; Richie Cosworth, Sr., 6-1 290, OL/DL; Jordan Chavez, Sr., 6-1 175, WR/DB; Troy Keys, So., 6-1 170, RB/DB In 2012: After graduating just four seniors in the last two seasons, expectations are to get back to the playoffs this year. They will need to step up on defense, where they have struggled immensely the last couple seasons.

PUEBLO EAST Coach: David Ramirez 2011 record: 6-4 Returning starters: Four offense, four defense Last playoff appearance: Strengths: Work ethic, speed, skill positions. Weaknesses: Experience, both lines. Players to watch: Kurt Rode, Jr., 5-10 175, QB; Alex Mestes, Jr., 5-11 160, WR/DB; Adrien Montour, Sr., 5-11 170, RB; Joe DeTello, Jr., 5-9 160, WR/DB; Mike Benadidez, Jr., 5-10 175, RB/LB; Devin Galvan, Sr., 5-10 160, OL/LB In 2012: Pueblo East is looking forward to a great season. With a large senior class and having worked their tails off this offseason, it looks to be a promising year. Their skill positions look to be in great shape and if the line on both sides of the ball comes along and they develop some experience, it will payoff.

In 2012: The Spartans are very optimistic about this season, even though they are in a very tough league. These kids have worked extremely hard but need to grow up quickly and stay healthy in order for them to be successful this season.

MEAD Coach: Jason Klatt 2011 record: 2-8 (in 2A) Returning starters: Five offense, five defense Last playoff appearance: Never qualified Strengths: Hardworking lineman, skill of running backs. Weaknesses: Depth. Players to watch: Logan Anderson, Jr., 5-5 160, RB; Nolan Tescroet, Sr., 6-2 215, OL; Brayden Ruddy, Jr., 6-0 180, OL; Patrick Hall, Jr., 5-8 180, OL; Marco Clark, Sr., 5-11 170, OL In 2012: The Mavericks took a step up in classes from 2A to 3A this year even after a subpar year. Expectations are high this coming season, though. A different attitude and approach has this team believing. Their focus is to get better with each game and to keep doing the right things, which eventually will convert into some wins.

NORTHRIDGE Coach: Jeff Fulton 2011 record: 1-9 Returning starters: Eight offense, seven defense Last playoff appearance: 2005 Strengths: Experience Weaknesses: Depth Players to watch: Adrien Villa, Sr., 5-10 180, OL/DL; Scott Rink, Sr., 5-11 190, OL; Blake Karlin, Sr., 6-1 160, WR; R.J. Fulton has been waiting for this class to blossom ever since they were sophomores and now, after some hard work and discipline, this team is ready to show the league what they are all about.

Weaknesses: Youth, inexperienced. Players to watch: Spencer Urban, Sr., QB; Jacob Bernhardt, Sr., C; Randy Molinar, Jr., RB; Tanner Starr, Sr., LB; Daniel Kammerell, Sr., DL; Josh Semmar, Sr., LB In 2012: Roosevelt has a very tough start to its schedule, which will challenge this young group of kids early. If they are able to adapt and overcome early on then they will be on the right track for a successful season. Their work ethic and will to win should carry them throughout the season, but their younger guys will need to grow up in a hurry.

Weaknesses: Inexperienced. They have reloaded very nicely from their great season a year ago and are looking to get these juniors more experience. With a formidable schedule, they will look to defend their conference title.

SKYLINE Coach: Kevin Rice 2011 record: 1-9 Returning starters: Seven offense, seven defense Last playoff appearance: 2000 Strengths: Skill positions, speed, depth. Weaknesses: Inexperience, youth, offensive line. Players to watch: Jarret Angstead, Jr., 6-0 170, QB; Israel Valdez, Sr., 5-9 150, RB; Austin Edson, Jr., 6-4 300, OT; Jordan McEntee, Jr., 5-11 220, LB; Alex McHone, Sr. 5-10 150, FS; Luciano Quesada, Jr., 6-0 180, OLB In 2012: Positive expectations are coming from Skyline, even coming off a 1-9 season. With increased depth and team speed, things are looking up for this team. If they can get better up front and grind out their tough schedule, they will have a successful season.

Last year their junior varsity squad was undefeated, so they will have a strong group coming up to the varsity level. Relying on their quarterback and strong offensive play, they’re expecting to reach the playoffs.

DELTA Coach: Ben Johnson 2011 record: 4-6 Returning starters: Six offense, five defense Last playoff appearance: 2009 Strengths: Senior leadership, speed. Weaknesses: Size. Players to watch: Mitchell Whiteside, Sr., 6-3 180, QB; Robert Williams, Sr., 6-2 210, LB; Zach Decker, Sr., 6-1 175, RB; Alfredo Rosales, Sr., 6-0 200, NG; John Lindsey, Sr., 6-0 210, OG In 2012: Delta is in a very strong league but its feels, behind their senior leadership, it can overcome just about anything. This team is looking to reach the playoffs and make a run behind three-year starting quarterback Mitchell Whiteside and three-year starting linebacker Robert Williams.

EAGLE VALLEY Coach: John Ramunno 2011 record: 1-8 Returning starters: Ten offense, ten defense Last playoff appearance: 2005 Strengths: Experience, solid offensive line. Weaknesses: Team confidence, special teams. Players to watch: Andy Armstrong, Sr., 6-5 230, OL; Jordan Hudspeth, Sr., 6-0 175, QB; Cole Nielson, Sr., 5-10 170, RB/S; Rich Ramunno, Sr., 5-10 165, FB/LB; Ayren Hart, Sr., 6-4 220, TE/DE; Joe Sanchez, Sr., 5-9 205, OG/NG In 2012: With 17 seniors and some valuable experience, this team is looking to vastly improve from last season. Last year they created the habit of not being able to hold onto their leads, so their goal this season is to fight through adversity as well as limit their mistakes and ultimately work together to gain some wins.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS Coach: Rocky Whitworth 2011 record: 5-5 Returning starters: Five offense, four defense Last playoff appearance: 2010 Strengths: Linebackers. Weaknesses: Depth. Players to watch: Auston Tribble, Sr., 5-9 160, WR/DB; Logan Holmberg, Sr., 6-5 220, OT/DE; Alberto Ramirez, Sr., 6-2 220, OG/LB; Garrett Lowe, Jr., 5-10 220, LB/FB; Justin Barham, Jr., 6-2 190, OLB/TE; Travis Lundin, Jr., 5-10 165, QB; Caiden Sorensen, Sr., 6-0 180, WR/DB In 2012: The Demons are looking to get things started right off the bat. With a tough schedule, and having lost their 1,000-yard rusher, they are going to rely heavily on their returning starting quarterback Lundin, and their experienced linebackers.

MOFFAT COUNTY Coach: Kip Hafey 2011 record: 3-7 Returning starters: Eight offense, eight defense Last playoff appearance: 2006 Strengths: Experience. Weaknesses: Depth (smallest 3A public school). Players to watch: Bubba Ivers, Sr., 6-0 185, QB; Michael Samuelson, Sr., 6-0 210, RB/DT; Garrett Stewart, Sr., 5-10 150, OLB/WR; Jarrett Walt, Sr., 6-2 185, WR/LB; Zach Beauchamp, Sr., 5-10 210, OL/DE In 2012: High expectations are running through Moffat County. They are expecting to battle for the league championship as well as the state title. Their experience will play a large role in their success.

PALISADE Coach: John Arledge 2011 record: 10-3 Returning starters: Six offense, six defense Last playoff appearance: 2011 (Lost in semifinals) Strengths: Running game, physical. Weaknesses: Size. Players to watch: Luke McLean, Sr., 5-11 200, QB/LB; Dalton Hannigan, Jr., 5-6 140, TB/FS; Caden Woods, Sr., 6-0 180, FB/DE; Jack Lamard, Jr., 6-0 160, OLB/WR; Spencer Jackson, Sr., 5-9 140, CB/WR/K In 2012: Palisade is looking to continue their success, which has lasted the last 20 years. They expect to contend for not only their league but for the state title. In order to do so they will rely heavily on their quarterback, Luke McLean, who is their returning rusher as well.

RIFLE Coach: Damon Wells 2011 record: 11-1 Returning starters: Seven offense, seven defense Last playoff appearance: 2011 (Lost in second round) Strengths: Experience. Weaknesses: Overly confident. Players to watch: Ryan Moeller, Sr., 6-1 200, RB; Coby Beauford, Sr., 5-10 190, LB/OL; Hugo Ruelas, Sr., 5-7 155, NG/OT; Kellin Leigh, Jr., 5-6 150, RB/S; Javier Nunez, Jr., 6-0 210, LB In 2012: This upcoming season is full of promise for the Bears. With a 17-5 record in the last two years, the only thing standing in their way of a state title is themselves. The Bears have some valuable experience, with most of the starters having started the last three years. Their mentality is one game at a time, and with that in mind they are hopeful for a state title.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS Coach: Lonn Clementson 2011 record: 0-10 Returning starters: Eight offense, eight defense Last playoff appearance: 2009 Strengths: Experience. Weaknesses: Confidence. Players to watch: Ben Custer, Sr., 6-1 185, DE; Skyler Kauf, Sr., 6-0 175-FS; Christian Ramirez, Sr., 6-0 170, QB; Mike Lekarczyk, Sr., 6-2 210, MLB In 2012: Although they have not won a game in the last two years, the Sailors are incredibly optimistic about this upcoming season. They are returning eight starters on both sides of the ball, which gives them valuable experience. They need their seniors to develop some strong leadership in order for this team to get out of survival mode.
