The quickest route to the No. 1 spot in the polls? Beating the previous No. 1, of course.
Doherty upset preseason Class 5A No. 1 Grandview to open its season, and jumped from fifth to first in this week’s Denver Post coaches poll. Grandview dropped to fifth.
Chaparral moved up two places to second. The Wolverines went 4-1 last week, but a loss to Highlands Ranch snapped a 58-match winning streak. For its part, Highlands Ranch is ranked seventh this week.
In 4A, Lewis-Palmer supplanted Cheyenne Mountain as the No. 1 team. Valley remained in the top spot in 3A.
