COLORADO SPRINGS — The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo announced the gender of one of Colorado Springs’ newest residents Monday — a bouncing baby gorilla.
And the zoo is asking the public to name him.
That’s right, him.
After the baby arrived, zookeepers were unable to get close enough to the gorilla and its protective mother to determine the gender.
“When they’re first born, we do not know the sex of the baby. We don’t interfere with their natural behaviors unless there’s a problem and we need to,” zoo spokeswoman Erica Meyer said.

Oh boy, oh boy!
The zoo will take name suggestions through Sept. 20, and in person at the Primate World exhibit at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. The top three names will be announced Sept. 21, and voting will be held at the zoo Sept. 22 through Oct. 5.
