When we first found out that the University of Denver would host the very first presidential debate on Oct. 3, we knew Denver would make a party – or three – out of the big event.
Sure enough, Obama and Romney won’t be the only big attractions. The University of Denver is hosting on the 3rd from 3-9 p.m. on Carnagie Green – in the center of campus off University Boulevard between Evans Avenue and Warren Circle. And the all-local line-up presents a dream team of local pop-folk music.
FM radio favorites the Lumineers will play the show with Denver hero Nathaniel Rateliff, making for a potent blast of the best pop-rooted folk music the region has to offer. Denver singer-songwriter Zach Heckendorf will open the show. After the music and festivities – including food trucks, bike valets and an Issues Alley full of informative exhibitors – the big event, Obama-vs.-Romney, will be telecast live on the Green.
The hitch: The event is already at capacity. The university took registrations from students, faculty, alumni and friends, and they’ve already closed it off – and without registration, there is no admission. But this isn’t the first debate-themed party to be announced, and it won’t be the last.
