Comcast on Tuesday said it will add 400 call-center jobs in Denver and Colorado Springs by the end of 2013.
The new jobs will come at the expense of Comcast’s operations in northern California, where the company is and transferring the work to Denver, Seattle and Portland.
The cable-TV provider is expanding its call center in Denver by 250 positions and its operation in Colorado Springs by 150 positions.
The Denver call center currently has 550 employees and the Colorado Springs call center has 400.
“This is part of an ongoing call-center strategy to align our customer-care facilities across the company into specialized Centers of Excellence,” the company said. “These centers are dedicated to serving customer segments with specific product and service needs.”
The goal is to provide subscribers with “faster resolution the first time they call and interact with customer-service experts.”
Meanwhile, Comcast is closing California call centers in Livermore, Morgan Hill and Sacramento, the Contra Costa Times reported.
“We have concluded that the cost of doing business makes operations in California expensive and very difficult,” said Comcast spokesman Andrew Johnson.
The new jobs in Colorado will be posted at . Wages will start at $12 an hour.
