Permanent memorial to slain Denver officer Celena Hollis planned for Park Hill park

 Five months after she was fatally wounded at City Park Jazz, s will have a memorial created in an area she patrolled.

The Piton Foundation is funding a memorial at the Holly Peace Mural Park at 33rd and Holly in the Park Hill neighborhood. The memorial will consist of a plaque with a photograph of Hollis engraved upon it on one of the peace pillars in the park.

Terry Minger, president of the Piton Foundation, came up with the idea for the memorial after meeting with the mayor shortly after Hollis’ death June 24.

“It struck me as a place and time to stop and pay our respects,” he said, adding that he got positive feedback from the Denver Police Department as well as Hollis’ family.
