HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.—The Colorado State Patrol says a Nebraska man has been cited with misdemeanor traffic charges in the deaths of two highway construction workers south of Denver.
The Denver Post reported Wednesday ( ) that 74-year-old Thomas Garrity of Bellevue, Neb., faces two counts of careless driving causing death.
The State Patrol says an SUV driven by Garrity veered off an exit ramp on C-470 in the south Denver area on Tuesday, striking and killing the workers.
They were identified as 47-year-old Joseph Schwartz of Morrison and 27-year-old Jesus Villalobos of Brighton.
Garrity’s SUV then collided with another SUV. He and a 72-year-old female passenger in his vehicle were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. The passenger’s name hasn’t been released.
The driver of the second SUV wasn’t hurt.
