An Arvada man accused of trying to set fire to the house where his estranged wife and children were staying was arrested Thursday, after he was found hiding in a pile of leaves.

Kenneth Lee Rascon, 30, was wanted after of his bail in the July 6 incident. An Arvada patrol police officer spotted Rascon near West 32nd Avenue and Youngfield Street Thursday. He ran, but after a search of the area by officers and police dogs, he was located hiding in the leaves next to a home in the 3400 block of Wright Street, about a half mile from where he was spotted.

Rascon’s family was not home at the time of the fire on July 6, but the blaze killed a dog and injured two other pets. The charges against him include first-degree arson, burglary, felony animal cruelty, trespassing and violating a protective order.

The couple filed for divorce on June 21 and the divorce is scheduled to be complete on Dec. 6, court records show.
