ASPEN, Colo.—A former worker for an Aspen restaurant has pleaded guilty to stealing about $2,000 from his former employer’s safe.
Joseph Kern pleaded guilty Monday to theft and obstructing a peace officer. He was sentenced to two years of supervised probation.
A police report says surveillance footage showed him taking money from a safe in a CP Burger office last October. Kern’s lawyer says that at the time, Kern wasn’t in his right mind after having alcohol while taking prescription drugs. The money has been recovered.
Kern is still suing his former employer Samantha Cordts-Pearce, contending he is owed more than $5,200 in unpaid wages from working as the director of operations for her restaurants. She has counter-sued Kern, saying he owes her about $5,600 in damages.
