New addition Jon Garland will start Tuesday for the Rockies, leaving Drew Pomeranz headed back to Triple-A Colorado Springs. . He said he nearly signed with the Rockies this past offseason.

Garland has pitched extensively in the National League West and has no qualms about throwing at Coors Field.

Said Garland, who will wear No. 27: “Philly has a tough park. Cincinnati is tough. So is Texas. And even Wrigley (Field) when the wind is blowing out. It comes down to making my pitches. If I don’t, I won’t succeed.”

Pomeranz was the front-runner for a rotation spot before the Garland signing. Pomeranz has had an uneven spring training, and a return to the minor leagues can afford him more time to work on his offspeed pitches in a less stressful environment.

The Rockies have final roster decisions to make regarding at least one bullpen spot and a utility infield position.
