How hard is it to find a large, reasonably priced home near Denver this spring? If you’re looking at Anthem, the new master-plan near Highway 7 in Broomfield that wraps two community centers and 48 miles of trail, it’s tough: For the past six months, less than 1 percent of Anthem’s existing homes have shown up on the resale market. But help is on the way, and this is the day to check out how you and your family could fit into the picture here.

At Anthem Highlands, this is the first moment this year when builders are ramping up models you can tour. You can already tour fast-selling models by Richmond American Homes from the mid-$300s today; and you can get on an interest list for models by Standard Pacific Homes, sized 2,486 to 3,543 square feet, that open for viewing next weekend – specially designed for Anthem’s Lookout Village, where many will back to open space and a mountain panorama, from the mid-$400s.

Either of those builders can give you a special ‘Experience Anthem’ pass today that will get into nearby Parkside Recreation Center where you can try out the fitness gear, shoot some hoops, and find out about the events that Anthem families have been enjoying over the past four years. Those include a Wild West “Bootin’ Scootin’ Boogie” where neighbors meet over barbecue and country swing; a hugely-popular ‘Battle-of-the-Blocks’ party; and loads of activities at the 32,000-square-feet rec center with dance classes and an ‘Anthem Alligators’ swim team that works out at a resort-style pool with giant water slide.

“If you really experience what it’s like to live here, if you ride your bike around the parks and trails, or see how your kids like the activities, you’re going to want to live here,” says Anthem operating partner Jeff Handlin of Oread Capital & Development.

But with resales in Anthem hard to come by, there’s only one way to do that, Handlin adds, and that’s to buy a new home. Richmond American’s are moving at a rapid clip as buyers take advantage of the easy commute into job-growth areas along the U.S. 36 corridor, Longmont Diagonal, at Boulder Business Park, or downtown Denver – 25 minutes south. Meanwhile, Standard Pacific’s designs have already drawn a waiting list, and this is the day to get your place on it. And you can see Anthem Ranch, Anthem’s 55-and-older community with its own rec center, where Toll Brothers Homes arrives later this year.

You can also get an Experience Anthem pass at Parkside Community Center. To reach the models, take I-25 north past 470 to Highway 7, west three miles to Lowell, and south to Preble Creek Parkway; or from 144th in Broomfield head north on Lowell.
