POWELL, Wyo.—Wyoming’s State Loan and Investment Board has voted to contribute $25,000 to study the feasibility of starting a gunsmithing school in Cody.
The Powell Tribune reports the state funding is dependent on a $25,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture coming through. The nonprofit economic development group Forward Cody is contributing $5,400 to the study.
The move comes as states look to lure gun companies that have said they’re leaving Colorado following its passage of new gun laws.
Business development consultant Al Jones has told Forward Cody that a key factor for many companies looking to relocate is whether there’s a skilled pool of employees in the area.
The gunsmithing school could help Cody’s workforce become more attractive to gun manufacturers.
