the sitcom pilot from Denver comedy trio the Grawlix that’s currently competing for a full season on Amazon Instant Video, has been reaping largely positive reviews since it debuted on Friday, April 19.
We have a full list of them below, but our favorite so far has to be , which bills itself as the “news site of record” for American education.
The excellent headline? “Amazon T.V. Pilot Shoots for the Hungover Teacher Demographic.”
We’ve never specifically heard of the “hungover teacher demographic,” but no doubt it’s a robust one, given the sorry state of school funding and thankless jobs that teachers have.
So if that’s the best review, what’s the worst? isn’t the harshest, but given that all the other pilot reviews in its article are a few sentences long and this one’s only a single sentence (with a 1 out of 5-star rating), AND the fact that it’s the New York Times, well, ’nuff said:
“A strained farce about three incompetent and unpleasant teachers who plot to bring down the even more unpleasant student who loves to taunt them.”
Ouch.
Still, the Grawlix guys — Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl and Ben Roy — can rest easy in the knowledge that not only are the lion’s share of their reviews positive, but that their show is among the eight other comedy pilots Amazon funded, with an impressive 4.5 out of 5 rating.
