The Denver coroner had identified a man .
Christopher Dubois, 39, was killed by by gunshots, the Office of the Medical Examiner said in a news release.
The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of South Federal Boulevard after police responded to a report of a suicidal person.
First responders found a man threatening Denver firefighters with a gun, police said.
The man was shot after he ignored commands to drop his gun. Officers first hit him with bean-bag rounds, police said.
The officer who shot the man was placed on paid leave per protocol during officer-involved shootings.
The Denver District Attorney’s office will investigate whether the use of deadly force was justified.
