Forget about the Billboard Music Awards. We’ve got Colorado music from shoegaze-rock power trio the Baltic for you to steal.

When musicians pick up their instrument for the first time, they tend to imitate those they admire. And why not? For most, it’s a love of listening that leads to playing. The task then is to find their own sound, their own voice. Some never do.

Denver power trio has found its sound, which would hardly be remarkable if the three members weren’t all still in high school. When they should be playing Weezer or White Stripes covers in their parents’ basement, the Baltic has crafted a sound all its own and are performing at the in July. Sure, there are influences — the vocals recall J. Mascis and the guitar chime can be reminiscent of Robert Smith — but it’s such a stew of influences that they all meld together.

Earlier this month, the band released a new single, “,” produced by Eric Halborg ( and ) and released on The “B-side” track “Demise” is available for download below. The song begins with tambourine, ends with strings, and is pure shoegazer rock in between. Hipsters heads will certainly nod and sway. If the members of The Baltic have such a mature musical voice and a musical prowess in their teens, it’ll be amazing to see what they do when their talents fully develop.
