A Denver police officer who had responded to an accident at Interstate 70 and Havana Avenue was hit from behind by a car early Saturday morning, according to Denver officials.
The officer was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for a leg injury and then released, according to a Denver police department tweet.
The Denver Police Department first tweeted about the accident shortly after 4 a.m.
Police cited the driver who struck the officer with careless driving resulting in injury, according to police. The name of the driver was not released.
“Heads up; drive safe,” Denver police tweeted.
The highway was closed during an accident investigation, but all lanes have been reopened.
