FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Fort Collins bicyclist no longer faces a $22 ticket stemming from a March run-in with a Larimer County sheriff’s deputy, who he accused of driving dangerously close to him with his patrol car.
The Coloradoan reports ( ) 57-year-old Douglas Baker was riding his bike in March when sheriff’s Cpl. Perry Malisani ticketed him for failing to move to the right side of the road. The ticket angered cyclists, who pointed to a Colorado law granting them the right to ride wherever they feel safe within a traffic lane.
Sheriff Justin Smith says the cyclists’ interpretation of the law was correct, but investigators found no wrongdoing on the deputy’s part. Malisani has denied putting the cyclist in danger.
