LAREDO, Texas—A Colorado man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a drug trafficking and murder-for-hire case in South Texas.
A federal judge in Laredo on Friday sentenced Shavar Davis of Denver. Davis last August pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute drugs and conspiracy to commit murder for hire.
Prosecutors say a co-defendant in 2011 began negotiating with people he thought were members of the Zetas drug cartel—but were undercover agents. A deal was reached for an active-duty Army officer to provide military weapons, training and kill someone in exchange for money and drugs.
Davis was among several people who traveled to Laredo in March 2012 for a meeting and were arrested. One suspect was shot and killed by authorities.
