United Express’ inaugural flight from Fort McMurray, Alberta, to Denver International Airport arrived Friday morning.
“Denver was selected as Fort McMurray’s first U.S. destination because of our unique geographical location in the center of the U.S. and robust network,” Kim Day, Denver International Airport’s manager of aviation, said in a news release. “Denver International Airport is vibrant, strong and growing, and we are very pleased to become Fort McMurray’s gateway to the world.”
SkyWest Airlines operates the nonstop daily United Express service between Fort McMurray and Denver.
“We’re proud to add a direct link between Denver and the great Canadian oil sands,” Paul Washington, executive director of the Denver Office of Economic Development, said in the release. “This is a boost for our energy industry, and we look forward to the additional travelers and business growth opportunities presented through this flight.”
