Denver could set a heat record and make a run at the 100-degree mark Monday with the hottest temperatures so far this year during the next few days.

The National Weather Service expects a Monday, which would eclipse the record for the date, . The 30-year average high for June 10 is 81 degrees.

Heat relief could come after 3 p.m. Monday, however, when the Denver metro region has a 10 percent chance of showers.

The temperature could settle to 61 degrees by midnight, then bounce back into the 90s on Wednesday and Thursday, slightly below record levels.

The heat slips back into the 80s, but still above average, in Denver next weekend, forecasters said.

Through Saturday, Denver’s temperatures in June have been 1.1 degrees cooler than normal, and the area has been a half-inch drier, .

The suddenly soaring temperatures have emergency officials in the high country sweating out Monday, as the heat melts the remaining snowpack and gorges streams.
