The crowd at the in Boulder on Saturday night was sparse, but those in attendance were treated to a beautiful and varied show from , and .
Local luminary Danny Shafer opened the show with his tried and true brand of Americana storytelling. His heartfelt lyrics and melodic guitar accompaniment enthralled the few who were lucky to have arrived early. Shannon McNally, backed by a solid band, ended the evening, with her strong voice echoing through the room.
But the real surprise of the evening was the second set, a New Orleans funk and soul band out of San Francisco aptly named the California Honeydrops. With perfect percussive accompaniment and a few horns to boot, the boys in the band brought a smooth rhythm and groove to the evening, leading the audience in call and response singing, jumping off the stage for a few acoustic numbers and keeping the tiny crowd rocking their bodies and tapping their toes.
