DENVER—Firefighters have largely put out a wildfire burning in a remote part of Mesa Verde National Park.
The wildfire started Tuesday by lightning and wasn’t threatening any structures. Ground crews, a helicopter, and a small air tanker worked on the fire.
The Cortez Journal reports ( ) that the wildfire was almost out by Tuesday evening.
Durango’s Interagency Fire Dispatch says firefighters have been responding daily to dozens of reports of smoke on public lands. Many of the fires have been sparked by lightning and have been quickly contained.
