Friday was a great day for University of Colorado Buffaloes at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Monaco, where volunteer assistant coach and former CU star Jenny Simpson won the 1,500 meters and senior Shalaya Kipp qualified for the world championships in Moscow next month with a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Kipp needed to improve her time to the “A” standard to make it to the world championships.

She did that Friday with a season-best time of 9:37.23, six seconds better than the qualifying standard.

Simpson, the reigning world champ in the 1,500, had a time of 4:00.48 on Friday.
