WESTMINSTER — An annual celebration of all things Westminster is expanding this year and bringing the party to locations across the community.
The Westminster Faire marks its 23rd anniversary from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 10 at City Park, 10455 Sheridan Blvd. It coincides with the first-ever Westminster Day, a bevy of free events and activities at city facilities throughout the day.
Among the new events are a free outdoor yoga class at 7 a.m. in Westminster Center Park, free admission to Countryside Outdoor Pool from 12-5 p.m. and free buckets of range balls at Heritage and Legacy Ridge golf courses from 6 a.m.-noon.
The biggest addition is an free concert in the park that evening, said Don Tripp, the city’s director of parks and recreation. The concert, by The Long Run Band, is from 7-9 p.m. at Christopher Fields, 5875 W. 104th Ave. — extending the fair beyond its traditional 10 a.m.-4 p.m. time frame.
“We’re trying to breathe a little life into something that’s of great interest to people and really celebrate our overall city,” Tripp said. “You’ll see even more in future years — this is just the beginning.”
Festivities at the Westminster Faire this year include live music, dance and theater performances, low-cost pet vaccinations and microchipping, free pet photos and other pet-friendly activities, and a BMX competition.
For kids, there will be a carnival, climbing walls, bounce houses and obstacle courses; for adults, the fair is bringing back the beer garden for the first time in several years, Tripp said.
Local nonprofits, businesses and organizations, including the Butterfly Pavilion and Westminster Fire Department, will also be setting up more than 120 booths at the fair, with food, crafts and other items for sale.
“There’s a lot going on all day,” Tripp said
