Multiple fire and police departments responded to the scene of a semi-trailer leaking hazardous materials late Wednesday morning.

The truck driver called 911 shortly after 11 a.m. to report the leak in the cargo he was transporting, according to a news release from the North Metro Fire Rescue District.

The truck, leaking a clear fluid, was hauling a mixed load of hazardous materials to a disposal site in Nebraska, which included flammable, corrosive, and other dangerous liquids and toxic materials, according to the release.

The truck driver exited Interstate 25 immediately after the call and parked on the east frontage road, south of Weld County Road 8.

Weld County Road 8 was closed in the area during the incident.

It took more than four hours to locate the leaking container and hazardous material crews stayed on scene until 7 p.m. to ensure the leak had been contained, according to the release.

A private hazardous material clean-up contractor finished cleaning the spill.

North Metro Fire Rescue District and Mountain View Fire Protection initially responded to the call and were then joined by Longmont Fire Department, Lafayette Fire Department, Greater Brighton Fire Rescue and Arvada Fire Department, in addition to multiple police agencies.

Nearby residents and those at a charter school were told to stay indoors during the incident, the release states.

No injuries were reported from the situation, according to authorities.
