Smoky Hill, Battle Mountain and Colorado Academy start the 2013 boys soccer season in the No. 1 spot of the teams’ respective classes in the poll.
Smoky Hill, which finished runner-up in the state 5A tournament last year, received five of the seven first-place votes. Boulder garnered the other two votes to claim the No. 2 spot, followed by Fairview (No. 3) and Cherry Creek (No. 4).
2012 Class 4A champions Battle Mountain received five of the six first-place votes, taking the No. 1 spot. Palmer Ridge (No. 2), which lost in the championship game, has the other vote.
A year after finishing 19-0-1, Colorado Academy begins its 2013 campaign at the top of the Class 3A rankings with five of the six first-place votes, while runner-up Kent Denver is No. 2. The remaining first-place vote was given to The Classical Academy at No. 3.
