Denver police are investigating two drive-by shooting incidents on Eagle Street in the Montbello neighborhood that wounded one man, sent a bullet into a home and littered the street with shell casings over the weekend.

The first incident occurred a little before 6 p.m. Saturday, when someone shooting from a passing vehicle unleashed a storm of bullets near 5507 Eagle St. One person was hit in the forearm.

Police haven’t identified the victim.

The vehicle involved may have been a green, four-door sport utility vehicle, possibly a Geo Tracker, according to police spokesman John White.

The barrage of shots wasn’t the end of gunfire on the block, White said.

There was a second volley of gunfire in front of the same home shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday.

Police haven’t determined if the shooting was gang-related, White said.

A woman who lives in a neighboring house said she and her family were barbecuing in their backyard when they heard what sounded like firecrackers.

When she saw the branches of trees near her home shiver with each crack, she realized it was gunfire.

The woman, who said she moved to Denver from New York City’s Harlem neighborhood, asked not to be identified out of concern for her safety.

One of the bullets broke a window and traveled into her home, where it remained Sunday, she said. “The police told me when I find the bullet, call them so they can come and retrieve it,” the woman said.

“It was scary,” said another woman who lives in the same home. “We have children here.”

Another neighbor, Luke Mackson, said he saw numerous shell casings near the corner of Maxwell Place and Eagle Street after the first burst of fire.
