Lyons resident Perry Corn waits with his wife, Angie, at a checkpoint at the junction of highways 66 & 36 in Lyons, on September 19, 2013. He said, "we're going to see what we can salvage and make sure no one runs off with the rest. We tried to tough it out till Saturday but with 3 dogs and the 2 of us we decided to heed the warnings." Now staying with friends he concluded, "my belief in the human spirit has been rejuvenated we've been so fortunate to have great people around us, taking care of us." Residents were being allowed to return to their homes Thursday.
