A heavy band of snow continues in the northern Colorado foothills west of Loveland on Friday afternoon, and a chance of snow showers remains in the forecast for the Front Range.

Bands of snow continue to churn through parts of northeastern Colorado on Friday afternoon, including a moderate mid-day snowfall in northern Douglas County near Sedalia, the National Weather Service reports.

Most snow showers will leave less than 1/10 of an inch behind, but heavier bands will pump out ½ an inch per hour.

Friday’s weather in northern Colorado includes heavy snow in the northern mountains, with high winds on the eastern plains and a widespread freeze overnight into Saturday morning.

Periods of snow will continue to fall in the mountains throughout the day Friday, especially along the Continental Divide and the Wyoming state line.

Drivers in the northern mountains should be prepared for winter conditions, especially those traveling over mountain passes.

Snow and blowing snow could be an issue along the northern and eastern borders of Wyoming and Nebraska on Friday afternoon and evening, the weather service reports. Winds on Colorado’s northeastern plains could gust up to 55 mph on Friday afternoon, bringing visibilities to zero in white-out conditions. Winds should die down Friday evening with clouds clearing overnight as the wintry weather moves east.

Some mountain areas, including the Park Mountains in northern Colorado, could see up to 10 inches of snow Friday.

Also in the mountains, Breckenridge reported 6 inches of snow just before 11 a.m., according to the weather service.

An area in Jefferson County, five miles southwest of Golden, reported 6 inches of snow as of 11:25 a.m., the weather service said.

In Denver on Friday, the high temperature will top out at 44 degrees and accumulation of snow should be less than ½ inch.

Tonight a freeze warning starts at 9 p.m. for a widespread area of northeastern Colorado including Denver. The warning ends at 9 a.m. Saturday. Temperatures could dip down into the lower 20s overnight.

On Saturday in Denver skies should be sunny and the high temperature should climb to about 57 degrees. Sunday will be even warmer, with a high of about 69 degrees.
