A man on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver stole a cell phone from a woman who was in a wheelchair.

The theft happened on Oct. 7 on the mall near California Street, according to a Crime Stoppers media release.

The robber ripped the phone, which was attached to a lanyard, from around the neck of the paraplegic victim, who also is unable to speak, and then fled on foot.

Police have released a photo, taken by a surveillance camera, of the suspect.

Anyone who recognizes the man, or who has information on the incident or a possible suspect, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720 913-STOP (7867). Tipsters can also send a text to: 274637 (CRIMES) then title DMCS and enter a message.

The Crime Stoppers line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
