brought an hour-long high-energy folk storm to David Letterman on Wednesday night. With their own Persian rugs in tow, the North Carolina group mixed new and old songs for a twang-heavy disheveled version of “Live on Letterman.”

With Scott and Seth Avett’s perfect harmonies alongside banjo, stand-up bass, fiddle and drums, the group performed tracks ranging from classics like “I and Love and You” to “Open Ended Lie” from their latest album “Magpie & The Dandelion.”

The Avett Brothers’ most recent album and debuted at No. 5 on Billboard’s top 200. The album is comprised entirely of tracks recorded during sessions for their 2012 hit LP “The Carpenter.”

On Nov. 5, J. Cole will perform on “Live on Letterman,” CBS announced on Thursday.
