Police in Fort Collins are looking for a driver who hit a bicyclist, stopped for a short period, and then took off.

The incident happened about 6 p.m. near the intersection of West Laurel and South Shields streets, according to a Fort Collins Police Department media release.

Witnesses told police the bicyclist and the driver were both heading north on Shields when the bicyclist turned in front of the car.

The victim, a 21-year-old Colorado State University student from Colorado Springs, is being treated at the Medical Center of the Rockies, in Loveland, for “serious” injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

Police described the vehicle as a white sedan with black door handles. Damage is minor and likely limited to the left front corner of the car.

The driver is described as a white woman, between 25 and 30 years of age, with straight, long, dark hair. She’s about 5-feet 6-inches tall and weighs between 175 and 200 pounds.

She was wearing a pink and orange shirt under a white cardigan sweater and blue jeans at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information on the incident, or the woman depicted in the sketches, is asked to call Fort Collins police at officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-221-6555.
