DENVER—Health officials have identified a bacterial contamination in Del Norte’s water system as E. coli.

The Denver Post reported Tuesday that state health officials informed town leaders of the contaminant in a letter.

Del Norte officials advised residents last week to boil the water or use bottled water.

Officials say the water system will be sanitized and flushed.

No illnesses have been reported as a result of the contamination.

Del Norte, in southwestern Colorado, has a population of about 1,700.
