DENVER—Colorado wine drinkers are buying more local wines and spending more to support the homegrown industry.

According to the Denver Post ( ), sales of local wines jumped from $19 million in 2011 to $28 million last year. Production in Colorado grew to 335,000 gallons, which is a 14 percent increase from the previous year.

Industry representatives say the growing numbers suggest a maturing market that is focusing more on quality and building a demand for local wine.
