No texting allowed

If your child sent Santa his wish list via text or e-mail this year, he isn’t alone. Most kids haven’t a clue about mailing a letter or card the “old fashioned-way” — putting pen to paper and attaching a stamp. Now they can write and mail a postcard for free courtesy of “SpongeBob MailPants,” an educational letter-writing program sponsored by Nickelodeon and the United States Postal Service. Through Jan. 4, pick up a free postage-paid, customized SpongeBob SquarePants postcard at participating post office locations. A new website also offers free step-by-step help on how to write a letter, with printable practice sheets and SpongeBob stationery. It’s a perfect opportunity for techno-kids to put down that cellphone or tablet and send holiday thank-you notes that won’t be quickly deleted from someone’s inbox.

Excitement brews

Thornton can dunk doughnuts every day at Dunkin’ Donuts’ newest store at 8775 Washington St. To celebrate, you can stop by the store and pick up a free medium hot or iced coffee through Dec. 24. Enjoy your coffee break daily from 4:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. The restaurant offers flat-screen televisions and free Wi-Fi.

Postage-paid

Still haven’t found the perfect holiday gift for out-of-town family and friends? Mark your calendar for Free Shipping Day on Dec. 18. This is a one-day cyber event, when merchants offer free shipping (with no minimum order required) with guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve. More than 1,000 name-brand online retailers are expected to participate.

Art break

The forecast for winter break is for creativity and fun, thanks to the Denver Art Museum. From Dec. 21 through Jan. 5, students age 18 and younger get free general admission to the museum. To celebrate the exhibition “Passport to Paris,” this year’s theme is “Winter Break: Bienvenue.” French-inspired activities include artist demos, art making in the galleries and other cool surprises. In addition, Create-n-Takes, Family Activity Carts and the Just for Fun Center will be open every day, all day. No reservations needed.
