COAHOMA, Texas—Quail Dobbs, who spent 35 years as a rodeo clown before becoming a judge in West Texas, has died.
Dobbs died Wednesday at his home in Coahoma (kuh-HOH’-muh). Judy Dobbs said Friday that her husband had Parkinson’s disease and other health issues. He was 72.
Dobbs retired as a rodeo clown at the end of 1998. The following year he took office as a justice of the peace in Howard County.
Dobbs, whose gags included a pretend hat-cleaning operation, was inducted into the Colorado-based ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2002. Dobbs was also a member of the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring.
