The Denver District Attorney’s Office found the police officer who killed a hostage-taker last month was justified in using deadly force.
Officer Vincent Matthews fatally shot Blas Leroux, 34, outside a Colfax 7-Eleven Jan. 13 after the armed suspect used a female hostage as a human shield during a botched robbery.
Matthews told investigators he feared for the woman’s life and had a clean shot at Leroux, so he fired a single round, according to documents from the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
Leroux died of his wound about a week later.
No one else was injured during the situation.
