Guessing music festival lineups is half the fun. You can search for clues in tour schedules, interviews and leaked info and come up with the best acts that almost always seem underwhelming compared to the real thing. The people of know this, which is likely why they give fans their own, sometimes-impossible clues to figure out. With the Bonnaroo 2014 lineup set to be revealed on Feb. 19 — once again through a live webcast — we take a look at who could be topping the lineup of the festival’s 13th edition.
Elton John
Widely rumored to appear at Bonnaroo this year, Elton John would be a big get for the festival. In its seventh lineup clue, Bonnaroo included a pair of large sunglasses, which many people think is a reference to John. He also has a gap in his upcoming tour that would accommodate playing Bonnaroo.
Beck
Already confirmed for the Pitchfork Music Festival and Coachella, and with his 12th album out next week, Beck seems to be a likely addition near the top of the Bonnaroo 2014 lineup. He’s yet to announce a tour in support of “Morning Phase,” and it’s safe to bet that it will include a number of festival appearances. Beck last appeared at Bonnaroo 2006.
OutKast
Coachella and Bonnaroo try not to share headlining acts, but with OutKast’s announcement to play 40 festivals this year, this one’s going to be hard for the reunited hip-hop act to miss.
Prince
Readying his own new album, and coming off a 2013 that saw an intimate club tour, 2014 is looking promising for Prince to make his first appearance at Bonnaroo. With his new band in tow Prince is already set to play the Essence Festival in New Orleans, and he’s looking like he might be getting ready to hit the festival circuit in 2014.
Neutral Milk Hotel
In the midst of their reunion tour, Neutral Milk Hotel is heavily rumored for Bonnaroo 2014 because of the festival’s final clue. It shows three cars driving down the street with a Nissan, Mitsubishi and Hyundai from left to right. Most people think this refers to “NMH.”
Others
Along with these top billed acts, a number of artists are expected to appear on the list, including Chvrches, Broken Bells, Arctic Monkeys, Childish Gambino, Interpol, James Blake, Mac DeMarco, Phantogram, Phosphorescent, Sleigh Bells and more.
